Role Overview: We’re looking for a passionate, creative, and detail-oriented Mechanical Designer to join the Nexstem team. You will work closely with our engineering, product, and NPD team to engineer the products that are not only cutting-edge in technology but also user-centric and aesthetically pleasing. Your primary focus will be on bringing the product functional and easily manufacturable.
Key Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Experience-Led Design: Craft intuitive physical interactions through refined features and touchpoints that enhance overall Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), optimized for both mass production and prototyping phases.</li>
<li>Concepts &amp; Ideation: Generate innovative design concepts through advanced CAD modeling, exploring multiple design directions to solve complex mechanical and manufacturing challenges.</li>
<li>3D Modeling &amp; Prototyping: Develop high-fidelity CAD models and functional physical prototypes for rapid iteration, with focus on mechanical fit, ergonomic skin contact, and precise sensor integration for optimal bio-signal capture.</li>
<li>Mechanical Design &amp; DFM: Engineer components, assemblies, and enclosures for manufacturability, with meticulous attention to tight tolerances critical for sensor accuracy, signal integrity, and user comfort.</li>
<li>Materials &amp; Process Engineering: Select and validate biocompatible, durable, and high-performance materials suitable for biosignal acquisition devices, including skin-safe plastics, flexible substrates, conductive materials, and moisture-resistant finishes.</li>
<li>Creative Engineering Solutions: Develop innovative, scalable, and user-safe solutions to address unique design constraints posed by human-machine interfaces, including electrode placement, signal noise reduction, and wearable ergonomics.</li>
<li>Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with neuroscientists, electrical engineers, industrial designers, firmware developers, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical, electronic, and user experience elements.</li>
<li>Vendor &amp; Production Liaison: Manage relationships with suppliers and contract manufacturers to coordinate prototyping, tooling, and scaling of components involving bio-acquisition hardware (e.g., dry electrodes, flex circuits, sensor housings, wearable straps).</li>
<li>Technical Documentation: Create comprehensive engineering documentation including CAD drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions, and specifications that support regulatory compliance, design validation, and repeatable manufacturing of sensor-integrated wearables.</li>
<li>Design Validation &amp; Iteration: Conduct mechanical testing, design validation and drive continuous improvement based on real-world feedback.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Skills &amp; Qualifications</h2>
<h3>Core Requirements</h3>
<ul>
<li>Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in&nbsp;Mechanical Engineering,&nbsp;Product Design,&nbsp;Mechatronics, or a closely related field — or equivalent practical experience.</li>
<li>Experience: Minimum&nbsp;2 years&nbsp;of experience in developing physical products, with strong preference for work in&nbsp;bio-acquisition wearables,&nbsp;medical devices, or&nbsp;BCIs.</li>
<li>Portfolio: A strong portfolio demonstrating&nbsp;end-to-end product development—including contributions to&nbsp;mechanically sound,&nbsp;sensor-integrated, and&nbsp;production-ready&nbsp;wearable solutions.</li>
<li>Technical Tools: Expertise in&nbsp;PTC Creo, SolidWorks or Fusion 360 and proficiency with&nbsp;3D prototyping techniques&nbsp;(e.g., 3D printing, CNC).</li>
<li>Manufacturing Expertise: Proven experience with&nbsp;DFM/DFA,&nbsp;plastic injection molding, GFF molding,&nbsp;sheet metal,&nbsp;tolerancing, and&nbsp;assembly techniques&nbsp;suitable for precision fit around the human body.</li>
<li>Team Collaboration: Strong history of working closely with&nbsp;engineering,&nbsp;neuroscience, and&nbsp;industrial design teams&nbsp;to translate design intent into manufacturable, high-performance products.</li>
<li>Problem Solving: Methodical, iterative approach to design challenges—balancing user needs, technical feasibility, Manufacturability and regulatory considerations.</li>
<li>Manufacturing Interface: Experience liaising with vendors and suppliers for&nbsp;wearable and sensor-integrated component production, managing risk and ensuring quality.</li>
<li>Communication: Excellent skills in presenting&nbsp;design rationale, engineering trade-offs, and user research findings to multidisciplinary stakeholders.</li>

<li>Biosignal Product Experience: Prior work in&nbsp;bio-acquisition products&nbsp;such as EEG, EMG, ECG, or other physiological monitoring devices is a significant advantage.</li>
